Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind the blockbuster God of War series, is reportedly working on a brand new game, and this time, Kratos is not the center of attention.
According to multiple sources, the upcoming title will focus on Faye, the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus, making it a major spinoff set within the God of War universe.
How Did This Leak?
The buzz started over the weekend when a LinkedIn profile from a writer who had worked on the project began circulating online. The profile described the game as “a new franchise within the God of War universe,” which quickly got fans talking.
Shortly after, well-known video game leaker NateTheHate confirmed the news, saying the lead character would be Faye. IGN also independently verified this information.
“Yes, the game is set within the God of War universe and the lead character will be Fay,” NateTheHate wrote. “Current plan: Reveal this year, release first half 2027, barring any delay.”
NateTheHate has a solid track record when it comes to leaking gaming news, so this one carries some weight.

Who Exactly Is Faye?
If you’ve played the recent God of War games, you know Faye is far more than a background character.
Also known as Laufey, Faye plays a central role in the story of Sony Santa Monica’s Norse-era God of War titles. In God of War Ragnarok, she is brought to life by actress Deborah Ann Woll, best known for her roles in True Blood and Daredevil.
In the 2018 God of War, Faye is already dead when the game begins. The entire journey revolves around Kratos and Atreus fulfilling her final wish: scattering her ashes from the highest peak across the Nine Realms. By the end of the game, players discover that Faye was a Jötunn, or Frost Giant.
In God of War Ragnarok, she appears more frequently through flashback-style dream sequences, giving players a deeper look at who she really was.
What Could the Game Look Like?
Since Faye’s story unfolds long before the events of God of War (2018), a game centered on her would almost certainly be a prequel. That also means Kratos would likely have little to no presence in the story.
This could be a fresh and exciting direction for the franchise, allowing Sony Santa Monica to explore a completely new perspective within a universe fans already love.
Stay in the Loop
This is still based on leaks and has not been officially confirmed by Sony or Sony Santa Monica. But with a reported reveal planned for sometime this year and a potential 2027 release window, an official announcement may not be too far away.
