Blizzard just closed out the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony with one of its biggest Warcraft reveals in years. World of Warcraft: Forever is the new Classic+ experience many WoW fans have been asking for since the original Classic revival began in 2019.
Forever takes players back to the first year of the original World of Warcraft, released in 2004. But this isn’t simply another trip down memory lane. Blizzard is rebuilding that early version of Azeroth with new zones, fresh quests, new dungeons and raids, and even a brand-new playable race.
The idea is to keep the slower, more social spirit of classic WoW while giving veteran players plenty of new things to discover.
Warcraft franchise lead Holly Longdale summed up Blizzard’s approach during the announcement, saying that the world itself should be the main character. As she put it, “it’s the journey that counts, not the destination.”
World of Warcraft: Forever Release Date and Launch Time
World of Warcraft: Forever launches worldwide on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST.
The good news for existing players is that you won’t need to purchase a separate game to access the experience. Forever will be included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time.
What’s New in World of Warcraft: Forever?
While some early reports have mentioned slightly different numbers, Blizzard’s announcements and current coverage point to a substantial amount of new content.
Here’s what players can expect:
- Three brand-new zones
- Revamped versions of existing classic zones
- More than 1,000 new quests woven into the leveling experience
- New dungeons and raids
- A new battleground
- The new playable Skyborne race
- A new starting experience built around the Skyborne
That’s a lot more than simply putting the original 2004 game back online. Blizzard appears to be using the classic version of Azeroth as a foundation rather than treating it as a museum piece.

Meet the Skyborne
The Skyborne are an elf-like race and one of the biggest additions coming with Forever.
They have their own starting experience on Zephras Isle, giving new Skyborne characters a dedicated introduction to the world.
The race is also getting plenty of attention in Blizzard’s marketing, which isn’t surprising considering it’s one of the most noticeable differences between Forever and the original vanilla WoW.
Players who purchase a qualifying upgrade edition will also get early name reservation, allowing them to secure a Skyborne character name before the game officially launches.
World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Starts September 17
If you’re interested in trying Forever before launch, there’s not much time to wait.
The beta begins on September 17, 2026, and is scheduled to run until October 21, 2026.
However, beta access isn’t being offered to every player. You’ll need to own either the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection to participate.
That makes the Epic Pack particularly interesting for players who already know they want to jump into Forever early.
World of Warcraft: Forever Editions
Although the base Forever experience is included with an active WoW subscription or game time, Blizzard is offering several upgrade packages with additional bonuses.
Skyborne Heroic Pack
The Heroic Pack includes:
- Skyborne race and Zephras Isle starting experience
- Early name reservation
- Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount, with the required riding skill
- Shen’dorei Skyseer’s Garb transmog set
- Veteran Adventurer’s Rucksack
- Shen’dorei Windwell toy
- Housing decorations for modern WoW
- One Invite-a-Friend Launch Code
Skyborne Epic Pack
The Epic Pack includes everything from the Heroic Pack, along with:
- Beta access beginning September 17
- 30 days of game time added on November 4
- Additional cosmetics
- Extra tabards and pets
- Two additional Invite-a-Friend Launch Codes
That gives Epic Pack owners three Launch Codes in total.

Warcraft Forever Collection
The Warcraft Forever Collection is a limited-time package available through January 11, 2027.
It includes everything from the Epic Pack, plus:
- Warcraft III: Reforged
- The new Warcraft III: Reforged Forsaken Kingdom campaign
- Forsaken figurine housing decor
- Human figurine housing decor
Blizzard hasn’t confirmed the individual USD prices for these editions yet, so players interested in the beta will want to keep an eye on the Battle.net Shop as more details become available.
You Can Bring a Friend During Launch Week
There’s another interesting perk attached to the upgrade editions.
Each package comes with at least one Invite-a-Friend Launch Code. Friends who redeem one can play World of Warcraft: Forever for free from November 4 through November 11, without needing their own WoW subscription.
The codes are scheduled to be emailed to eligible players starting October 20.
So if you have a friend who’s been curious about classic WoW but doesn’t want to commit to a subscription, this could be an easy way to get them into Azeroth for launch week.

Forever Isn’t the Only Warcraft News From BlizzCon
Blizzard had plenty more to show during the keynote.
The company also revealed Forsaken Kingdom, a new Warcraft III campaign that launched alongside the announcement. It marks the RTS franchise’s first new content in more than 20 years.
That’s a pretty big deal on its own, but Blizzard wasn’t finished.
The studio also teased a new StarCraft game planned for 2030, confirmed Diablo V for 2029, and revealed that a Diablo animated series is in development at Netflix.
In other words, Blizzard clearly had more than just WoW on its BlizzCon agenda this year.
What Does World of Warcraft: Forever Mean for Existing Players?
If you’re already playing modern retail WoW or another version of WoW Classic, there’s no need to worry about your existing characters or progression.
Forever is being positioned as a separate experience built around players who want the atmosphere and social design of early WoW while still getting something genuinely new to explore.
That’s probably the most important part of the announcement.
Blizzard isn’t simply asking players to repeat the same classic journey again. It’s taking familiar foundations and changing enough of the world to make exploration worthwhile, even for people who know the original Azeroth inside and out.
For players who left WoW years ago, Forever could also be an interesting reason to return.
Rather than treating classic WoW as a one-time nostalgia trip, Blizzard seems to be turning the idea of returning to the game’s roots into a more permanent part of the franchise.
