Wolverine Game Gets Release Date and It's Sooner Than You Think

Gaming fans know the feeling all too well. A game gets announced, hype builds for years, and then comes the dreaded delay notice. With GTA VI already slipping its date more than once, nobody would have been shocked if Marvel’s Wolverine followed suit.

But it isn’t. Insomniac Games confirmed via an official post on X that Marvel’s Wolverine is still on track and dropping on September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5. You can even wishlist it right now. For fans who have been waiting since that first bar-scene teaser back in 2021, this is genuinely good news.

Logan Is Getting the Game He Deserves

Insomniac is the studio behind the Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy, and those games set a high bar. Fluid combat, strong storytelling, and characters that actually felt like real people. That track record is a big reason why expectations for Wolverine are sky-high.

This time, though, Insomniac is going darker. Much darker. The game follows Logan in an original story as he searches for answers about his past. It is not pulling directly from existing comic storylines, which gives the developers room to do their own thing with the character.

Past locations include Madripoor, Japan, Canada, and several other global settings. Logan is globe-trotting, which means plenty of room to introduce familiar faces from the X-Men universe along the way.

What the Gameplay Actually Looks Like

The September 2025 State of Play trailer did not hold back. Wolverine tears through enemies with his adamantium claws in fast, fluid combat that looks far more brutal than anything in the Spider-Man games.

There is a rage system that builds as you fight, unlocking more powerful berserker attacks the deeper into a battle you go. Real-time regeneration is also confirmed, meaning you can watch Logan’s skin and muscle heal mid-fight, similar to how it worked in the older X-Men Origins: Wolverine game.

Expect dismemberment. Expect blood. The game is rated Mature for a reason, and Insomniac has been clear that this is not a family-friendly superhero romp.

Why September 15 Is a Smart Date

Releasing in mid-September gives Marvel’s Wolverine some breathing room before GTA VI lands in November. That is genuinely clever scheduling. Two massive games launching back to back would have split attention and spending in ways that hurt both titles.

Insomniac gets a clean window in September, players get time to finish Logan’s story, and then GTA VI takes over the rest of the year. Everyone wins, except for wallets.

Bigger Moment for the X-Men

Marvel’s Wolverine is not just another game release. It is the first entry in what Insomniac is planning as an X-Men trilogy, similar to how they built out the Spider-Man series. The hack on Insomniac in late 2023 revealed quite a bit about those plans, including leaked footage, voice actor lists, and gameplay mechanics like an “Imagine” feature that lets Logan use memories to investigate.

Voice actor Liam McIntyre, best known for Spartacus, plays Logan. Troy Baker is voicing Mr. Sinister. The cast looks strong.

Marvel has been quietly rebuilding the X-Men brand across comics, animation, and film. This game arrives at exactly the right moment, and it could be the biggest X-Men gaming event in years.

One More Big Reveal Is Coming

Insomniac mentioned earlier this year that a Spring update is still on the way. Sony will likely save that reveal for a State of Play event, though Summer Games Fest in June is also a possibility. Expect a deeper look at the story, more gameplay, and probably a few character reveals before the September launch.

If the Spring update sticks to schedule, the September 15 date is not going anywhere.
