Sprites are back in Fortnite, and this time around, Epic Games has made them a core part of the Chapter 7 Season 3 experience. Whether you are a returning player or someone jumping in fresh, understanding how Sprites work can genuinely change how you play.
Here is everything you need to know.
What Are Sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3?

Sprites are collectible creatures that sit on your character’s back and give you active buffs during a match. Chapter 7 Season 3 launches with 10 of them, each tied to a specific rarity tier: Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythic.
The buffs range from auto-healing to invisibility and even a random loot drop system. Some are clearly built for aggressive players, while others reward a more passive playstyle.
Here is the full breakdown of all 10 Sprites:
| Rarity | Sprite Name | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Rare | Earth Sprite | Better odds of pulling rare items from chests |
| Rare | Fire Sprite | Triggers a fiery burst after dealing enough damage |
| Rare | Water Sprite | Slowly refills shields when you stand in water |
| Epic | Duck Sprite | Emoting or Jamming out refills your shields |
| Epic | Ghost Sprite | Brief invisibility each time you reload |
| Epic | Demon Sprite | Siphon effect: kills restore health or shields |
| Epic | King Sprite | Massive Pickaxe damage boost for wall-taking |
| Legendary | Dream Sprite | Random item each time it levels up, Legendary loot at Max Level |
| Legendary | Punk Sprite | “Possibly nothing… or infinitely something.” |
| Mythic | Zero Point Sprite | Spawns a Shield Bubble Jr. whenever you use a healing item |
The Punk Sprite’s description is genuinely cryptic. Nobody knows exactly what it does yet, which makes it one of the more interesting finds this season.
How to Catch Sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3
Getting a Sprite is simpler this season compared to Chapter 6 Season 1. You can find them in three ways:
- Inside regular chests across the map
- By eliminating opponents who are carrying one
- By exploring the Shattered Coast
Once you pick up a Sprite, it hops on your back and the buff activates immediately. No extra steps needed.
How to Extract Sprites in Chapter 7 Season 3
Catching a Sprite during a match is temporary. If you want to keep it permanently, you need to extract it.
Here is how to do that:
- Find a Sprite during a match, any rarity works.
- Carry it to the nearest Extraction Site shown on the map.
- Interact with the terminal (X/Square on controller, E on PC).
- Wait for the Extraction Crate to show up.
- Submit your Sprite for extraction.
Once extracted, the Sprite goes into your permanent collection and you earn Sprite Dust, which you can spend on Extraction Gizmos.
Losing the match before you reach an Extraction Site means dropping the Sprite for another player. So if you are sitting on a Legendary or Mythic, play a little carefully.
Extraction Gizmos: What Are They?
As the season goes on, players will unlock consumable Gizmos that skip the need to reach an Extraction Site. Three Gizmos are confirmed so far:
Portable Extractor (Available now): Extracts your Sprite from anywhere on the island. Useful if you find a rare one late in the match and do not want to risk carrying it to a landmark.
Lucky Locator (Coming later): Tracks down a buried chest that contains a Sprite you are still missing from your collection. A targeted tool for completionists.
Extraction Site Booster (Coming later): Calls in a special crate that buffs any Sprite extracted at that location.
How to Summon and Upgrade Sprites
Once a Sprite is in your collection, you can bring it into any match by spending Sprite Dust before jumping off the Battle Bus. The cost varies by Sprite type and variant.
Here is the Sprite Dust cost for every Sprite and variant available right now:
| Sprite | Sprite Dust Cost |
|---|---|
| Earth Sprite | 100 |
| Fire Sprite | 100 |
| Water Sprite | 100 |
| Demon Sprite | 3,000 |
| Duck Sprite | 3,000 |
| Ghost Sprite | 3,000 |
| King Sprite | 3,000 |
| Candy Demon / Duck / Ghost / King Sprite | 6,000 each |
| Galaxy Demon / Duck / Ghost / King Sprite | 6,000 each |
| Gold Demon / Duck / Ghost / King Sprite | 6,000 each |
| Punk Sprite | 5,000 |
| Sleepy Sprite | 5,000 |
| Candy / Galaxy / Gold Punk Sprite | 10,000 each |
| Candy / Galaxy / Gold Sleepy Sprite | 10,000 each |
| Burnt Peanut | 7,500 |
| Zero Point Sprite | 7,500 |
| Candy Zero Point Sprite | 15,000 |
| Galaxy Zero Point Sprite | 15,000 |
| Gold Zero Point Sprite | 15,000 |
| Candy / Galaxy / Gold Earth, Fire, Water Sprites | 4,000 each |
You can upgrade a Sprite by doing things while it is equipped: opening chests, knocking or eliminating enemies, and completing repeat extractions. Extracting the same Sprite type repeatedly eventually lets you Master it, which unlocks new customization options for The Guardian skin from the Runners Battle Pass.
Can You Lose a Sprite?
Yes, but only if it has not been extracted yet.
A Sprite you pick up during a match sits in your inventory. If you get eliminated before reaching an Extraction Site, you drop it and another player can grab it. An extracted Sprite, on the other hand, is yours permanently and cannot be lost.
Chapter 7 Season 3 has made Sprites feel much more rewarding to chase compared to earlier seasons. With 10 varieties at launch and more Gizmos dropping throughout the season, there is a fair amount to work through.
