Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was officially announced by Bandai Namco during Battle Hour 2026. The game is set in AGE 1000, over 200 years after the main timeline, and features a new world, original characters designed by Akira Toriyama, and the return of custom player-created heroes. It is scheduled to release in 2027.
After nearly a decade of waiting, Dragon Ball fans finally got what they wanted. Bandai Namco confirmed on April 19, 2026, that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is real, and it’s coming in 2027.
The announcement came during Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, a live event held in Los Angeles. Fans watching the stream lost their minds when the curtain was pulled back on a game that had been hiding in plain sight.
What “AGE 1000” Really Means
For months, the gaming world knew about a mysterious Dragon Ball project codenamed “New Game Project AGE 1000.” It was first teased at a 40th-anniversary event in Japan back in January. A teaser video even got accidentally uploaded as “Xenoverse 3” on some regional YouTube channels, giving the game away way before the official announcement.
On Sunday, Bandai Namco made it official. AGE 1000 is Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3.
A World Set 200+ Years Into the Future
The “AGE 1000” name isn’t just a codename, it’s the setting. The main Dragon Ball story usually takes place around AGE 700. This new game jumps more than 200 years ahead into uncharted territory.
Players will explore a brand-new version of West City, a fully developed urban world packed with original characters and new stories. The trailer gave fans a mostly animated look at this future world, and honestly, it looks like a completely different Dragon Ball universe.

You Still Build Your Own Hero
One thing that made Xenoverse special was letting players create their own character instead of just playing as Goku or Vegeta. That’s not going anywhere.
Xenoverse 3 keeps the custom hero system that fans loved. At Battle Hour, Bandai Namco revealed designs for both a male and female player character, giving players more options from the start.
A new character named Brett was also introduced as one of the key figures in the story. Bulma also appeared in the showcase. And eagle-eyed fans spotted a character in the trailer who looks very much like Gamma 2 from the 2022 movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
Akira Toriyama’s Final Gift
This is the part that hits differently.
Franchise executive producer Akio Iyoku confirmed that Akira Toriyama, the original creator of Dragon Ball, was directly involved in building this game’s world. He worked on the characters, the setting, and the overall vision. The game has been in development for six to seven years, which means Toriyama spent a significant part of his final years contributing to it before he passed away.
Bandai Namco says the new original characters were specifically designed by Toriyama. That alone makes this game feel like something more than just a sequel.
Platforms and What’s Missing
Xenoverse 3 is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Store pages are expected to open soon.
One thing that caught attention: Nintendo Switch 2 is not on the list. Xenoverse 2 sold really well on the original Switch, so the absence of a Switch 2 version raised eyebrows. Fans in comment sections are betting on a late port announcement down the line, though nothing has been confirmed.
Xenoverse 2 Is Getting Its Final Chapter
Alongside the big reveal, Bandai Namco announced that Xenoverse 2, still running strong since its 2016 launch, is wrapping up with one last DLC pack. Future Saga Chapter 4 drops in Summer 2026, and the trailer makes it clear this is the final goodbye for that game’s story.
Ten years of content for one game is no small thing. It’s a proper send-off.
The Wait Is Almost Over
Xenoverse 3 doesn’t have a specific release date beyond “2027,” but the announcement itself was a long time coming. With Toriyama’s involvement baked into its DNA and a bold new setting that breaks away from the usual Dragon Ball timeline, this one has a lot to live up to, and a lot of reasons to be excited.
If you’re a Dragon Ball fan, now is a good time to go back and revisit Xenoverse 2 before the next chapter arrives.
Keep an eye on Bandai Namco’s official channels for the first gameplay reveal. When that trailer drops, you won’t want to miss it.
