Epic Games never misses a chance to go completely wild, and this year’s April Fools update in Fortnite is proof of that. The game has been flooded with ridiculous new additions including big heads, Finger Guns, and the star of the show: Rideable Llamas.
Yes, you can now hop on a Llama and bounce around the island like the chaotic player you were always meant to be. And the best part? There are actual rewards waiting for you if you stick with the ride long enough.
Here is everything you need to know about finding and riding Llamas in Fortnite right now.
What Is the Llamanomaly and Why Does It Matter?
You will not find a Rideable Llama just sitting around on the map like a regular vehicle or zipline. These are not that easy to come across.
Rideable Llamas only show up during a special in-match event called the Llamanomaly Rift Anomaly, which was added as part of the April Fools update. When this anomaly triggers during a Battle Royale match, Llamas start spawning across multiple spots on the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 map.
The catch is that Rift Anomalies are completely random. You might get the Llamanomaly in one match and then go several games without seeing it again. So when it does appear, make the most of it.
How to Find a Rideable Llama on the Map

Once the Llamanomaly kicks in, finding a Llama is actually pretty straightforward.
Pull up your mini-map and look for small Llama icons scattered around the island. These icons mark exactly where the Rideable Llamas have spawned. You can also keep an eye on the compass at the top of your screen, which will point you toward the nearest Llama in real time.
As you get close to one, a white Llama icon will pop up on your screen as a visual cue that the creature is nearby. That is your signal to move in.
How to Actually Ride the Llama
Getting on a Llama is simple. Walk up to it and press the Interact button, which is Square or X on a controller, or E if you are playing on PC.
Once you are on, the Llama starts bouncing around based on your movement and look controls. Hit the Sprint button to make it run faster, which works similarly to how riding Wolves and Boars used to work in older Fortnite seasons.
Here is where things get interesting. As you keep riding, a Taming Llama meter starts filling up on your screen. While this is happening, the Llama drops ammo and loot for you and other players in its path.
Fill the meter completely and the Llama turns gold. At that point, it rewards you with up to 350 Gold Bars and a Chug Jug, which is a seriously solid haul.
Can You Keep Riding After Taming It?
Absolutely. You can keep riding the golden Llama even after fully taming it.
However, keep in mind that the Llama has a health pool of 900 HP, so it is not invincible. If you ride it into a fight without being careful, it can go down fast.
The good news is that you can still use weapons like Finger Guns while riding, so use the Llama’s speed to dodge around enemies while returning fire.
You can also get other players to stack on top of you while you ride, combining the Shoulder Ride mechanic with the Llama for what might be the most ridiculous squad play Fortnite has ever offered.
What Happens If Someone Shoots the Llama?
If a Llama takes damage, it gets knocked down and starts dropping ammo just like a standard Loot Llama. Once its health hits zero, it bursts open and players can collect whatever ammo has dropped.
But here is the thing: shooting the Llama means you miss out on the big rewards. Riding and taming it is always the better call if you want those Gold Bars and the Chug Jug.
How Long Will Rideable Llamas Be in Fortnite?
The Rideable Llamas and other April Fools features, including the big head mode, are scheduled to be removed on April 2, 2026, at 5:30 AM ET.
That said, Fortnite developer Ted Timmins has hinted that Rideable Llamas and the Shoulder Ride mechanic could become permanent fixtures in Chapter 7 Season 2 if the player response is strong enough.
So if you want these features to stay, the best thing you can do is play them and make some noise about it.
Go Ride a Llama Before It Is Too Late
The April Fools window is short, and Rideable Llamas are only here for a limited time. Jump into a Battle Royale match, watch for the Llamanomaly, and grab that golden Llama before someone else does.
If you have already tried it out, drop your experience in the comments. Would you want Rideable Llamas to become a permanent part of Fortnite? The developers are listening, and your feedback could actually make a difference this time.
