Nintendo just confirmed that the film is hitting theaters on March 26, 2027. Yes, it’s still a bit of a wait, but after nearly four decades of playing as Link, what’s a couple more years?
The news dropped via Nintendo Today, the company’s new app, and spread like wildfire across the gaming and movie communities. For longtime fans, this is a dream years in the making — finally seeing Hyrule brought to life on the big screen with real actors, epic battles, and hopefully, a Master Sword that doesn’t look like a cheap prop.
Who’s Making It?
This isn’t just some rushed video game cash grab. Nintendo is teaming up with Sony Pictures, and the film will be directed by Wes Ball — the same guy who directed the Maze Runner trilogy and is behind the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Ball’s got a solid track record when it comes to balancing action, world-building, and heart.
Even more exciting? Shigeru Miyamoto — the man who literally created The Legend of Zelda — is on board as a producer. That alone should calm any nerves about the movie straying too far from its roots. Also producing is Avi Arad, who’s helped bring countless Marvel characters to the screen.
Wes Ball has already hinted at what to expect. He wants the movie to feel grounded — less cartoony, more fantasy epic. Think Lord of the Rings, but with rupees and Deku Trees.

The timing makes a lot of sense. Nintendo dipped its toes into Hollywood with The Super Mario Bros. Movie back in 2023, which absolutely crushed at the box office. It made over a billion dollars and proved that, done right, video game movies can actually work.
