Assassin's Creed Shadows Title Update 1.0.1 (Hot Fix) What’s New & Should You Care

So, here’s something that caught my eye while I was doom-scrolling through gaming news this morning — Disney Illusion Island, which has been a Nintendo Switch exclusive since it launched, might be on its way to the PS5. Yeah, seriously. That charming little platformer starring Mickey and the crew? It might be about to open its doors to a whole new batch of players.

Now before anyone gets too excited, no — Disney hasn’t made some big announcement about it (yet). But a listing for the game recently popped up on the PlayStation Store servers, and it didn’t take long for the internet to notice. The leak was first flagged by Gematsu and surfaced through PSDeals, which is a site that scrapes PlayStation Store data for upcoming releases. And lo and behold, there it was: Disney Illusion Island Starring Mickey and Friends.

That title, by the way, is slightly different from what we saw on the Switch. More on that in a sec.

The Title Got a Tiny Tweak

This is one of those small things that might seem irrelevant but could actually hint at something interesting. On Switch, the game was simply called Disney Illusion Island. The version found on Sony’s servers includes the extra bit: “Starring Mickey and Friends.”

Maybe it’s just a branding update to make things clearer for folks who aren’t already familiar with it. Or maybe (and this is me being optimistic), it could be teasing some additional content. New features? Bonus levels? A few fresh cutscenes? It’s all speculation at this point, but the rename is curious enough to raise eyebrows.

A Quick Refresher: What Even Is Disney Illusion Island?

If this is the first you’re hearing of it, Disney Illusion Island is a 2D side-scrolling platformer with a vibrant hand-drawn art style that looks like it was pulled straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon. The game focuses on exploration and teamwork, rather than combat. So don’t go in expecting to stomp on enemies or slash your way through bad guys.

Instead, the gameplay centers around movement and traversal — things like wall-jumping, swimming, gliding, and unlocking new abilities to access different parts of the map. Very metroidvania-lite, if you will. It’s not trying to reinvent the genre, but it knows what it wants to be: a chill, family-friendly adventure that you can play solo or with friends.

The game supports local multiplayer for up to four players, and each character — Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy — brings their own style and flair. There’s even a mechanic where you can give another player a hug to restore health. Cute? Over-the-top? Maybe a little bit of both, but honestly, it fits the tone perfectly.

How Did It Do on the Switch?

It got a warm reception when it released back in July 2023. Critics weren’t throwing around perfect 10s or anything, but most people appreciated what the game was going for. It currently holds a 73 on Metacritic, which is pretty respectable.

The visuals and animation were standout elements — seriously, this game looks fantastic in motion. The level design got praise too, especially how it encourages cooperation in multiplayer. The writing’s solid, packed with that classic Disney-style humor that’s playful without being too cheesy.

If there were any real criticisms, they mostly boiled down to the lack of combat and a few underwhelming boss encounters. Some folks were hoping for a bit more challenge. But if you’re going into this expecting a cozy, low-stress platformer that’s easy to pick up and put down, it delivers exactly that.

So… When’s It Coming?

As of now? No clue. The listing exists, which is usually a solid indicator that something’s brewing behind the scenes. Whether that means a full reveal in the next PlayStation State of Play, or just a quiet trailer drop on a random Tuesday, who knows. But if it’s already showing up on Sony’s end, odds are we’ll be hearing something official sooner rather than later.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, this move makes sense. Locking Disney Illusion Island to just the Switch always felt a little limiting, especially when the game’s whole vibe screams “bring the family and play together.” The PS5 feels like a great home for it — more power under the hood, wider player base, and plenty of households looking for a solid couch co-op experience.

If Disney’s looking to grow the audience for this one, bringing it to more platforms is the way to go. And for players who never got the chance to try it because they don’t own a Switch, this could be a perfect little gem to dive into.

Keep an eye out — something tells me this isn’t just a fluke listing.
