The wait for GTA 6 keeps getting longer, and patience across the gaming world is wearing thin. A former Rockstar Games developer has now issued a clear warning: one more delay could seriously hurt the excitement that has carried the game for years.
Mike York, who previously worked at Rockstar Games, believes the studio is walking a risky line. Fans want perfection, but they also want progress. According to York, pushing the release again may finally cool the hype rather than fuel it.
Former Rockstar Developer Sounds the Alarm
Mike York shared his thoughts in a recent conversation with Esports Insider, and he did not hold back.
“If Rockstar Games delays GTA 6 again, then the hype around the game will die down almost completely,” he said.
That statement cuts straight to the core of the issue. The excitement around Grand Theft Auto 6 has lasted for years, but even the most loyal fans have limits.
Fans Are Tired of Waiting
According to York, the problem is no longer frustration alone. Indifference has started to replace excitement.
“We’ve been waiting so long for GTA 6 already that if there was to be another delay, people will probably stop caring,” he explained. “Right now, nobody is searching for GTA 6. Everyone knows there’s no news, so there’s nothing to talk about.”
That shift matters. When fans stop checking for updates, leaks, and rumors, momentum slows. In the gaming world, silence often speaks louder than complaints.
Burnout Is Replacing Buzz
York described a fanbase that feels emotionally drained rather than angry.
People no longer refresh social media for leaks or speculate about trailers. Instead, the mood has changed to a shrug. “It’ll come out when it comes out” has become the dominant attitude.
That mindset usually appears after repeated letdowns. Each delay chips away at trust, even for a studio with Rockstar’s reputation.
Delays Even Reached the Political Stage

The frustration around GTA 6 has gone far beyond gaming forums. York pointed out that the delay from May to November 2026 even made headlines in Poland.
During a parliamentary session, an opposition lawmaker reportedly called the delay “a huge scandal.” It may sound extreme, but it shows how massive this release has become. Very few games spark debate outside the industry.
Why Rockstar Keeps Pushing GTA 6 Back
So why the delays? York says the answer is simple but costly.
“If I know Rockstar Games, they’re trying to make it look as good as possible,” he said. “They’re polishing everything. I don’t think they’re finished yet, especially with expectations this high.”
Rockstar built its reputation on quality. The studio knows GTA 6 must exceed what players saw in Grand Theft Auto V. Anything less would disappoint millions.
Why November 2026 Still Makes Sense
Despite his warnings, York believes the current release window is likely the final one.
“I think the game will be released in November 2026,” he said. “It’s the perfect time to sell a huge number of games. It’s right before Christmas.”
From a business standpoint, the timing checks out. Holiday releases boost sales, visibility, and long-term momentum. York also noted that studios usually only delay projects once or twice before locking in a final date.
A Timeline Filled With Setbacks
The road to GTA 6 has been anything but smooth.
Rockstar officially announced the game in December 2023, with fans expecting a fall 2025 release. That plan collapsed in May 2025, when the date shifted to May 26, 2026. Just six months later, Rockstar delayed it again to November 19, 2026.
Each delay felt heavier than the last.
Rockstar’s Biggest Risk Yet
GTA 6 still carries enormous expectations. No one doubts its eventual success. The real question is how long excitement can survive without turning into apathy.
York’s message is clear and logical. Perfection takes time, but silence and delays come at a cost. If Rockstar pushes the release again, it may not break the internet. It might just get a tired nod.
For a game this big, that may be the real danger.
