Epic Games Just Gave Away $80 Worth of Free Games

Epic Games quietly brought back one of its most popular promotions this week, and the first two mystery game reveals turned out to be genuinely worth grabbing.

As of May 14, the Epic Games Store is giving away Sunderfolk: Standard Edition and The Telltale Batman: Shadows Edition at no cost. You have until May 21 at 8 a.m. PDT to claim both. After that, they go back to their regular prices, and together, that’s $79.98 out of pocket you won’t have to spend.

What Are the Free Epic Games?

The Telltale Batman: Shadows Edition is the bigger name of the two. It packs in all 10 episodes across both Batman: The Telltale Series and Batman: The Enemy Within, plus the Shadows Mode that gives the game a striking black-and-white noir look. If you’ve never played a Telltale game, this is actually a good entry point. It’s not the Arkham kind of Batman. No open world, no combat combos. It’s a slow-burn story game where your choices shape how characters react to Bruce Wayne and Batman across the whole run. Both seasons are well-reviewed and hold up.

Sunderfolk is a different kind of game entirely. It’s a co-op tactical RPG built for up to four players, and one of its more unusual features is that you can use your phone as a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse. The campaign puts you in the town of Arden, which is being threatened by a creeping force called Shadowstone. You pick from a roster of anthropomorphic animal heroes, build out your ability deck, and coordinate turn-based fights with your team. It’s designed around couch co-op and online play equally, which makes it the rare tactical RPG you can sit down and play with non-gamer friends.

Both games carry “Very Positive” reviews on Steam.

Why the Mystery Format?

Epic runs these mystery giveaways a few times a year, usually timed to major store events. This one lines up with the Epic MEGA Sale 2026, which kicked off May 14 and runs through June 11. During the sale, Epic typically keeps the free game lineup secret until the moment each batch goes live, which drives more daily check-ins to the store.

The last mystery game event before this one was Epic’s 17-game holiday giveaway in December 2025. This May edition is expected to run through early June, with new free games dropping every Thursday.

What’s Coming May 21?

Epic has already started teasing the next two mystery games but hasn’t revealed what they are. Based on how these events have gone in the past, the reveals usually come on the same day the current batch expires. So check back on May 21 if you want to stay ahead of it.

How to Claim

Head to the Epic Games Store on PC, log into your account, and search for either title. Both should show a “Get” button at no charge. Once you claim them, they’re in your library permanently even after the promotion ends.

If you haven’t set up an Epic Games account yet, it’s free to create one, and you keep every game you claim regardless of whether you pay for a subscription.
