Capcom has surprise-released Leon Must Die Forever for Resident Evil Requiem as part of the free version 1.300.000 update. The new arcade-style mode features permadeath gameplay, randomized stages, unlockable enhancer abilities, and five difficulty ranks. Players can access the mode after completing the main story on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Capcom just did something unexpected. No countdown. No pre-release hype. Just a quiet update that dropped Resident Evil Requiem’s brand new minigame mode without any warning.
It’s called Leon Must Die Forever, and it’s available right now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
What Exactly Is This Mode?
Think of it as Resident Evil 7’s Ethan Must Die, but you’re playing as Leon S. Kennedy this time around.
After completing the main story of Resident Evil Requiem, players can head to the Extra Games section on the main menu and boot up Leon Must Die Forever directly. No extra purchase needed. It’s completely free as part of the version 1.300.000 update.
The mode sends Leon back through familiar areas from the main campaign, but don’t expect the same experience. Enemy variants are stronger, the clock is always ticking, and one wrong move can end your run for good. It’s intense in a way that the main story mode just isn’t.

How the Mode Works
Leon Must Die Forever is built around a simple but addictive loop. You fight through 20 stages, kill enemies to fill an enhancement gauge, and use that gauge to unlock special “enhancer abilities” exclusive to this mode.
What keeps it fresh is that each run plays out differently. The stage order shifts, the weapons you find are randomized, and the enhancer abilities on offer change between playthroughs. Five difficulty ranks give you room to push yourself further once you’ve got the basics down.
The whole thing ends with a boss battle against Victor, similar to what you faced in the main campaign but tuned for this faster, arcade-style format.
There are no cutscenes to slow you down. The premise is simple: Grace made it home safe, but Leon’s got more work to do. Go fight. Go fast. Try not to die.
It Shadowdropped. Completely.
Capcom had teased that some kind of minigame update was coming in May after Golden Week in Japan. Beyond that, there was no specific release date, no trailer posted ahead of time, nothing.
Then it just appeared.
The update also includes bug fixes across all platforms, which is a welcome bonus alongside the new content. For fans who’ve been grinding Requiem since launch, this is a good reason to jump back in.
What About a Proper Story DLC?
This is not the story expansion. That’s worth making clear.
Capcom has confirmed that a full story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem is still in development. There’s no release window for it yet, though it’s widely expected to arrive sometime in 2026. Leon Must Die Forever is a bonus mode, not a replacement for what fans are waiting for.
Still, getting a free, replayable action mode this soon after launch is a solid move from Capcom.
Merch and Amiibo Are Also Live
Alongside the update, Capcom announced a line of Leon Must Die Forever merchandise. T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies are available now on Amazon if you want to rep the mode in real life.
On top of that, the first-ever Resident Evil amiibo figures are coming. The two figures feature Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy, the main characters from Resident Evil Requiem, and they launch on July 30.
Should You Play It?
If you’ve finished Resident Evil Requiem and want more time with Leon, this is a no-brainer. It’s free, it’s already downloaded (just update the game), and it gives the game a real arcade edge that the main campaign doesn’t have.
The roguelike structure means no two runs feel exactly the same, and the permadeath keeps the pressure up throughout. It’s the kind of bonus content that actually has replay value.
Go update your game and give it a run. Or two. Or ten.
