Hideo Kojima finally gave fans their first real glimpse of OD, his mysterious Xbox Game Studios project, during the Kojima Productions: Beyond the Strand livestream.

The trailer, now confirmed to carry the subtitle OD- Knock, sets the stage for what looks like one of Kojima’s creepiest projects yet.

A Chilling First Look

The teaser features Sophia Lillis (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) exploring a dimly lit house. Her character uses a red card to open a crimson door with ghostly, partially redacted text on it. She found a chest of candles inside that need to be lit, which seems more ceremonial than everyday.

The atmosphere grows heavier as rain taps against the windows and candle flames flicker in the shadows. Strangely, some of the candles look like the creepy “BB” pods from Death Stranding.

Moments later, Lillis’ character shakes in terror as a sinister figure creeps up from behind. A Geiger counter-like clicking builds tension until the figure seizes her by the head, and the trailer cuts to black.

Why “Knock”?

Kojima explained the subtitle during the event:

“There is a different kind of fear Jordan [Peele] will do. Mine is the ‘knock,’ is the fear. I really am afraid of big knock sounds.”

The comment also clears up some confusion, since filmmaker Jordan Peele is reportedly working on his own project called OD. Kojima’s version leans into psychological dread, with the knock sound acting as the central motif of fear.

Cast and Story Hints

Beyond Sophia Lillis, the game also stars Udo Kier (Hunters) and Hunter Schafer (Euphoria). While most of the plot remains under wraps, the trailer’s partially censored text suggests the events of OD take place a decade after a terrifying incident, one that seems to resurface in this cursed setting.

Xbox’s Role in Development

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, joined Kojima on stage to talk about the collaboration. He confirmed that OD is being built on Unreal Engine with direct support from Xbox’s technical teams.

“Development is well underway,” Spencer said. “Kojima is innovating in gameplay, story, and player engagement. When I first saw it, I felt it was something sinister but unmistakably Kojima. Our goal is simple: to bring Kojima-san’s vision to life for all players.”

How Scary Will It Be?

Kojima, never one to shy away from blunt honesty, warned fans to brace themselves:

“It’s really scary, and you’ll probably do in your pants.”

With that statement, it’s clear OD is designed to unsettle players on a whole new level.

Wrap-Up

Kojima has always thrived on mystery, and OD: Knock looks like another mind-bending step in his career. From the strange ritualistic imagery to the terrifying knock motif, everything about the reveal screams “classic Kojima.” While no release date has been confirmed, one thing’s certain, this game is set to be unlike anything else on Xbox.
